Burst Pipes

Avoiding burst pipes



The most common cause of burst pipes, is not having sufficient insulation around the pipes in freezing weather. It is recommended to have at least 25mm pipe insulation around pipes in lofts, basements, garages and other similar areas. You should attempt to avoid having any exposed areas where the insulation joins. If using foam tube insulation material, make sure that you can adequately cover any sharp bends in your pipework.

To mend a burst pipe, you will propbably need to drain the system. Then cut out a section where the pipe is burst and replace it. For the home user not skilled in pipe soldering technique, it is sufficient to use compression joints to join the new pipe
